[ARCHIVED] Peaceful Protests Planned

The City of Palos Heights recently became aware of planned peaceful protests being organized in Palos Heights, IL on Thursday June 11, 2020 and Friday, June 12, 2020.  The City of Palos Heights made contact, and will continue to be in contact with the peaceful protest organizers to facilitate safe and orderly events.

The first event is planned for Thursday, June 11th, 2020, between the hours of 1:00PM and 2:00PM. The area expected to be affected by this event is the area of Shepard High School and Ridgeland Avenue between 131st Street and 127th Street. Event organizers are expecting 100-150 participants.

The second event is planned for Friday, June 12, 2020 and scheduled to begin at approximately 12:15PM at Trinity Christian College.  The protest march is planned to proceed westbound on IL Route 83 from Trinity Christian College (6600 blk of College Dr) until it reaches Community Park, located next to Palos Heights City Hall, 7607 W College Dr, Palos Heights, IL  60463.  Event organizers have planned speakers to address participants at Community Park, which is anticipated to last from 1:30PM – 3:30PM.

Traffic will be affected in the following areas of Palos Heights on Friday, June 12, 2020, from approximately 12:15PM to 1:30PM:

IL Route 83:  Ridgeland Ave (6400 blk) to Southwest Hwy (8000 blk)

Harlem Ave:  115th St to 127th St

Anyone having travel plans to or through Palos Heights, IL during these times is asked to use extra caution while driving due to extra vehicular and pedestrian traffic.  The increase in both, along with temporary road closures, may make it difficult to maneuver through town, so please explore alternate travel routes or make alternate plans during this time. Palos Heights City Hall will be closed on Friday, June 12, 2020.

The City website, social media platforms, and CodeRed notifications will be used to make important information available.
